Teens Texting While Driving

Teen’s texting while driving has turned out to be major issue in recent times. A study was conducted by the Allstate Foundation revealed that nearly eighty two percent of teens use the cell phone while driving, out of which about 49% admitted to texting while driving. In fact, the study also revealed most teens texted while driving simply to find friends, get directions, and to flirt.

Virginia Tech’s Transportation Institute conducted a research which concluded that texting while driving can increase the risk of an accident by twenty three times. Joan Walker, Corporate Relation’s senior vice president has put forward a couple of valuable words that should be taken into consideration by one and all. She says teens, their friends, as well as family members should identify risks of texting while driving and put a stop to the entire episode as early as possible.

Here are a few suggestions to help put a stop to texting while driving:

* Switch off the cell phone while you are on a drive
* If you think that it is necessary to send message then resist the temptation for instant gratification and wait till it is safe to pull over. After having done with the texting job, make sure to switch off the cell again.
* If there’s somebody else with you, then you can ask him to call up and gather the needed information
* If there’s an incoming message on your cell, ask the person next to you to go through your message and read it aloud.

With adequate efforts each of us can do our part to contribute to safer driving conditions for all. Texting is fun but, texting while driving kills.
