Teeth Whitening Trays

Today, millions of people are looking to improve their appearance, and one option that is growing in popularity is teeth whitening. For those looking to whiten their teeth, there are basically two approaches: professional teeth whitening performed by a dentist in his office, or do-it-yourself whitening through the purchase of whitening products designed for use in the home. Among the products designed for home use, the most effective are the teeth whitening trays or mouthpieces.

Teeth whitening trays are typically made of either rubber or plastic. For maximum effectiveness, it is important that the tray be fitted as closely as possible to the shape and size of your mouth. This is accomplished by boiling the tray before it is used and then placing it into your mouth as it cools. In this way the tray is fitted to your mouth's shape.

Once the teeth whitening tray is fitted properly to your mouth, a whitening agent or gel is placed within it and then put back into your mouth, where it is worn for about an hour. This procedure needs to be repeated daily for several weeks until the desired degree of whitening is achieved. Once the desired results are seen, monthly maintenance treatments are recommended.

Obviously, teeth whitening trays are not as easy or as comfortable to use as whitening strips or whitening toothpastes are. But they are much more effective than either of these other methods.

Are teeth whitening trays used at home as effective as professional treatment performed by your dentist in his office? No, of course not. But for many people, professional whitening treatment is just too expensive. For those who cannot afford professional teeth whitening, teeth whitening trays used at home are probably the next best option as well as a good compromise. The results won't be as immediate as treatment performed by your dentist, but they will come. And in the end you will have whiter teeth and a brighter smile.
