Telecom Expense Management Isn't Easy, But It Is Worth Every Penny

Telecom Expense Management (TEM) is a concept that requires efficient skills, proper tools and of course, time. If your company has all three elements to devote to managing your telecom system, then by all means go for it. On the other hand, if the individual or individuals responsible for TEM lack either skills, tools, time, or any combination, you need to explore the possibility of contracting with a business that specializes in Telecom Expense Management.

- Do you have the skills, tools and time to track your telecom assets? Who has what wireless device? How old is your wireline system? Is there better, more efficient equipment out there?

- Can you go over your phone bills with a fine-tooth comb and discover errors? Are there less expensive wireless plans that will fit your needs?

- Is there one person who tracks all MAC? (Moves, Additions, Changes) The larger the system, the more unwieldy it can become until it is completely out of control.

- Is there one person that is responsible for acquiring new assets, or is it a process of simply getting a new cell phone for an employee when he says he needs one? And where is his old one? Lost? Stolen? Has it been disabled by the carrier?

Depending upon your exact needs, you can opt for relinquishing complete control to a trusted and experienced TEM team, or a balanced approach in which the TEM company partners with your in-house telecom team. The ratio of in-house/out-sourcing can vary. Regardless, the fact that you realize Telecom Expense Management is a necessary and important function indicates that you are a wise employee. Watching out for the "bottom line" is everyone's job, and whether you are the boss or an hourly worker, bringing TEM to the forefront will get you noticed.
