The 5 Most Common Mistakes In Seo

A thinking person always thinks about mistakes before he/she goes about planning a campaign. There’s nothing wrong with learning as you go along…except that you’re bound to lose more money that way! Instead, why not consider the five most common mistakes that new companies make when trying out SEO marketing?

1. Poor Quality Content
This can apply to any and all poor quality content, including badly written copy, nonsensical or shallow articles, or duplicated content. In short, any text a human would have a hard time reading is something to be loathed by popular search engines. You must earn your high ranking by producing informative and high quality writing with appropriate keywords.

2. Poor Titles and Meta Tags
Inserting keywords in your articles is only the first step to proper Search Engine Optimization. It is also important to optimize the rest of your page for keyword phrases, including page titles and Meta tags. In fact, the title is the most important part of the page, because this is what search engine spiders notice first. It’s also good practice to give each web page one recurring primary keyword.

3. No Quality Linking
Linkbuilding has become a necessity in modern SEO, because one simple page is not enough to justify massive traffic. All search engines take into account link popularity (external links) as well as effective internal links. You might be surprised at how many companies have no links on their site! Others, though they have links, make no special effort to build links all across the web. Not only is this a poor SEO strategy, it’s a bad business idea. Who disputes that networking and getting your name out there is the key to marketing? Just as you must control your external linking, so too must you manage your internal linking and make sure that users aren’t being directed to error messages. (Link checker software can help in this regard.)

4. A Lack of Keyword Strategy
Marketers that merely publish new content on keywords they like are not really formulating a complete keyword strategy. Company heads and managers should ask themselves: what research tools am I using to determine the keywords customers are actually searching for? What keywords are my competitors using? And just as importantly, what tracking software am I using to determine how my chosen keywords are performing? Don’t forget to link keywords within your text, as contextual links are also effective ways to build internal links.

5. A Lack of Patience
Here is the most common mistake new companies make when venturing into SEO. They do not give their SEO campaign enough time to show return on investment! Reaching a #1 ranking may take months or even years, depending on your competition and how often you contribute content to major search engines. No campaign is going to work overnight. However, clients that run the “full course” will see ROI.
