The Abolition Of Game Guides Via Internet
For a series such as the earlier mentioned Final Fantasy, it’s not unusual to come across several huge, dedicated sites for the entire series. Websites such as FFInsider provide news on upcoming releases, walkthroughs and info on every game, and even soundtrack offerings. Having trouble on the latest boss or problems finding a particular item? No sweat with these sites; boasting an easily navigable menu selection, it’s as simple as choosing your game and then the closest topic to your problem, whether it be with item and weapon lists, monster and magic glossaries, or the character bios. Even if all you need is a new picture of Vincent Valentine for your forum icon, you can count on someone having the original game art already scanned onto the internet, just waiting for you to find it. With simple free software like Wikia available, a popular option for video game help and info is a Wiki, or user created database, full of info about everything related to the game. Much like its predecessor Wikipedia, there are article of the day and popular selections on the front page. These online Wikis have the old game guides beat, being searchable with links that lead to other relevant articles right in the text. It’s easy to lose yourself for hours learning about all the minutia of a game, without realizing that you only came to look up one detail. Wikia is easy to theme, with most wikis including the series or game logo as the site header, with colors and sometimes even a background to match. Another benefit over print is the ability to alter the contents of the database, should new info be released. It’s always a good idea to check a game for known glitches, to know what sections you should avoid (although modern games can usually just be patched).
