The Attorney And Bail Bondsman Relationship

Bail bondsmen are known for receiving calls all hours of the night and day; they are accustomed and used to it. Did you know that there are many criminal defense attorneys who receive calls at all hours as well? Just like a bail bondsman, attorneys need to be available for their potential clients or they stand a chance of losing that client to someone else. Some attorneys willingly give out their cell phone numbers; however, they are probably not use to actually receiving those calls like bail bondsmen are.

Surprisingly, not all attorneys have a relationship with a trusted bondsman. So when an attorney receives a call from an individual at 2:00 am asking for their help, they may quitely rush around and try to find a bail bondsman that can help their client in an urgent situation. They certainly are not going to tell their client that they don’t know a reputable bail bonds company. Their first move might be to search on Google in hopes they can find an ethical bail bondsman to help their client. The attorney is pushed to make a decision and to make it fast. All in all, their reputation is on the line and they need a reliable, professional, ethical, trustworthy and efficient bail bond company, and they need them now.

Many people never think they will need an attorney or a bondsman, but it is always a good idea to have those phone numbers readily available, just in case. Attorneys are quickly finding out how important it is to have the phone number of a bondsman they trust.

A few advantages to the attorney and bondsman relationship:
• Attorneys realize that any business referral is a direct reflection on them. If they suggest a bail bondsman who is not professional, does not know the details and specific information about the jail system, does not answer their phone, provides poor customer service, breaks the law of the bail bond system…etc., the defendant will certainly question the integrity and ability of that attorney.
• Professional bail bondsmen also offer many services to attorneys and clients to assist them efficiently and expeditiously. For example, a good bondsman will give an attorney 24 hour emergency service, no collateral signature bonds, flexible payment plans for defendants, providing a ride home for the defendant, and appear in court for bail and 1275 hearings.
• Not all bondsmen can execute large bonds. Bail bonds that exceed $250,000 can be very difficult to get approved for newer or small bail companies. A bondsman or bail bond company who has not been in the business long enough, or who have not built up a reliable reputation could find themselves receiving demands which are then passed on to their clients for even smaller bonds, collateral requirements, and additional co-signers. Therefore, a good attorney will know a competent bail bondsman who can get those large bail bonds finalized efficiently.
• Bondsmen are like insurance, you certainly hope you never really need them, but when you do, you are glad you have prepared and glad they are there in urgent situations.

Tips for Selecting a Bail Bondsman or Attorney
• Do your research.
• Visit their websites.
• Cruise the social networking sites and see what is being said about them.
• Visit forums where they may hang out online.
• Call and chat with them to determine how you may interact with other members of their staff.
• Ask a lot of questions.
• Check with the Better Business Bureau for ratings.
• Find out what sort of amenities they have that offer you convenience.
• Ask for referrals and recommendations.
• Find out how long have they have been in business.
• How easy are they to reach?
• Check their references.

All of these actions will help you to make an educated and sound decision about the next bail bondsman or attorney you select. These are very important relationships to have and very important phone numbers you need to keep handy. Hopefully, you will never need their services and most people think they never will, however, you just never know and it is always good to be prepared.
