As far as blogs go there are millions of them online today. Everyone who owns a website wants to add a blog to it. But why do you suppose that is?
Well, first of all, I suppose because blogs are so easy to get started that a young child of about 10 could quite simply get one set up. However, the biggest reason would probably be, Money! You see, for some reason people feel that blogging is that missing piece of the pie that they need in order to make some money for the first time.
However, just several days into any bloggers new found business idea they will start to realize that the money isn’t flowing in as they had predicted and this is going to require more work then they originally thought. Here they are spending all of this time working on their new blog only to become disappointed because they have not yet made anything.
Unfortunately, this is what I call the bad side of blogging. It takes many hours of work to finally start getting traffic to your blog. It will then take even further work on your part to convert that traffic into paying customers.
Do you value your time? Because if you do you have to think that every time you sit down to post some info in your blog you may be losing money. For example, let’s just say that everyday for one month you spend approximately 30 minutes to write a 400-word blog post. You will have spent 15 hours of your time and you will likely have not even made any money yet.
Most people are not likely to write 30 posts a month or ever. It can be very time consuming. There are so many blogs on the Internet that probably started out with good intentions and yet that were soon abandoned just like an orphan.
Someone once said, “A person should start a blog orphanage for abandoned blogs that we could adopt and offer tender loving care to”.
The bad side of blogging is that you just might find yourself being the next victim of the “blogging is work” syndrome. One more blog begun and soon a “lost blog” all because it can be a lot of work and it is not an easy road to the riches you may have hoped it to be in the beginning.
A great blog is one that someone starts and is willing to keep going not for the money but because the topic of the blog is the bloggers passion, they are very interested in the subject maybe even an expert.
A reader interested in the topic will return again and again just to hear what the blogger has to say. They might even pull out their credit card and purchase a product that the blogger recommends. They could subscribe to the bloggers newsletter or click on a Google ad. The blogger has done his job when they can keep their blog up to date with useful information; they have avoided the bad side of blogging.
