“the Beach” At International Park

There is no need for Atlanta area residents to make a long drive to the coast in order to enjoy a weekend at the beach. Instead they can take a short drive to “The Beach” at Clayton County’s International Park for a day of fun in the sun. “The Beach” was the venue for the 1996 Olympic Beach Volleyball event. It now offers a variety of recreational activities for area residents and visitors to enjoy.

International Park is one of Clayton County’s premier parks. The centerpiece of the park is “The Beach”, a six acre spring-fed swimming lake surrounded by a sandy beach. There are two waterslides, a geyser, a log roll, an adventure kiddie pool, and a concessions area. Lifeguards are always on duty. “The Beach” is a popular venue for birthday parties, and party packages are available.

There are plenty of other recreational options available at International Park. Visitors can play volleyball where Olympic athletes once played at one of the eleven beach volleyball courts. The excellent Tennis Center features 17 lighted hard courts, as well as a club house with lockers and showers. Private lessons are available. The popular Muscle Beach Fitness Center offers a fully equipped gym with free weights, strength machines, and cardio equipment. The center is designed to handle a range of fitness levels.

The Lakeview Events VIP Complex, overlooking “The Beach”, offers two levels of rental space suitable for corporate meetings, weddings, parties, and other events. Additional activities available at the International Park include two fully stocked fishing lakes, hiking and biking trails, picnic areas and rental pavilions, ball fields, a playground, and a miniature golf course.

International Park is located at 2300 Hwy 138 in Jonesboro, Georgia. “The Beach” is open Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day. Saturday hours are 10am to 7pm, and Sunday hours are 1pm to 7pm. “The Beach” is open Labor Day from 10am to 7pm. There will be a Labor Day weekend fireworks show on Saturday, September 4. Admission to “The Beach” is $11 for ages 13-54 and $9 for ages 3-12 and seniors. Children 2 and under are admitted free. All of the other facilities in International Park are open year round. While visiting Morrow, Georgia, allow a little extra time for fun and relaxation at the nearby International Park and “The Beach”.
