The Best Black Credit Card - How Credit Card Companies Are Striking It Rich

Do you want to get a Visa or American Express black card? You know you've finally hit the big time when you're carrying a black credit card. Credit card companies are trying to find new ways to earn revenue as many people on the lower end of the credit spectrum are turning out to be a bit too risky. They are looking at a part of the market that still has solid profit potential; those debtors with excellent credit scores and high incomes. What you hear on the news notwithstanding, there are still consumers in the marketplace who are excellent credit risks. The credit card companies are going out of their way to get these customers.

They can minimize their risk and maximize profit. As a business strategy, this has virtually no downside and a tremendous upside. The strategy is as old as business itself; provide an exclusive product or service and charge a premium price for it.
American Express began this trend years ago with the platinum card. While the Platinum card strategy proved successful, AMEX didn't develop it to the extent they could have.

To remedy that situation, few years ago they initiated what became known as the American Express Black Card program. Few people can meet its stringent requirements for income, spending, and credit worthiness. It offers tremendous benefits for this. For some individuals the mere fact of owning one makes a huge statement. When you drop one of these to pay for dinner, those that know what they're looking at will be suitably impressed.

Visa has been a leader in the credit card industry since virtually the beginning, when they were the BankAmericard. They don't like to be one upped by the likes of American Express. Visa recently began a black card program of their own. As with AMEX's card, it is open to only the upper echelon of consumers. Both offer special perks such as exclusive lounges and services, but Visa takes it even further. The card itself is actually infused with carbon. Yes, the same carbon that's used for the carbon fiber found throughout the black card holder's Ferrari.

Master Card will likely base their decision to launch a black card program of their own on Visa's success or failure with their black card program. Visa's success will probably mean that MC will initiate such a program in the not too distant future. The customers they're targeting are worth their weight in gold in our current economy, and lenders need all the excellent credit risks they can find.

They can not afford to turn their backs on such a lucrative market, especially as the federal government is talking about more industry regulation that will likely make it harder to earn solid profits from customers with lower credit scores. Shareholders and regulators are looking for a turnaround in the banking industry, and products like black cards are the ones that can help make it happen.
