The Best Gatlinburg Activities

Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is a four season vacation destination that sits next to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It offers a small town feel combined with several themed ride attractions, aquariums and museums, outdoor activities and romantic excursions.

Whether you are traveling with family or your significant other, Gatlinburg has attractions to suit everyone's taste. One of the most popular is the Ripley's Believe It or Not complex. It houses a number of different Gatlinburg activities, rides and amusements. The main part of Ripley's complex is a museum that displays odd collections they are best known for. Ripley's also has a large aquarium containing sharks, sting rays and multiple species of fish. Its Moving Theater allows visitors to feel like they are part of the motion picture being watched on a large projection screen.

Gatlinburg is also known for its unique museums. Hollywood Star Cars Museum offers the best cars from television shows, movies and music, including Elvis Presley's famed Cadillacs and the General Lee from the TV show "Dukes of Hazzard." The Titanic Museum is the world's largest museum attraction dedicated to the RMS Titanic, which sunk in the Atlantic Ocean in 1912. It showcases genuine artifacts from the ship, recreated state rooms, and significant areas of the ship, including the grand staircase.

If you are an outdoors enthusiast, there are plenty of Gatlinburg activities awaiting you. Visitors can choose from horseback riding along Great Smoky Mountain trails, go on a guided hiking or kayaking trip past free-flowing waterfalls, or take an exciting zip-lining tour that traverses above the tree line, providing a birds-eye view of the surrounding mountains. If you are looking for a way to cool off in Gatlinburg on a hot day, try a whitewater rafting trip, or visit nearby Dollywood Splash Country Water Park for some water-soaked fun.

Vacationing or honeymooning couples will also find romantic Gatlinburg activities. Horse drawn carriage rides are a wonderful way to experience how residents once traveled the streets of Gatlinburg. They also allow for some alone time with your loved one. The Gatlinburg Sky Lift is another way to have some romantic one-on-one time, as seats are built for two and riders will travel over the city, taking in sights for miles around.

Gatlinburg is known for its exceptional haunts. Several areas of town have reported paranormal activity on a regular basis. If you are a ghost hunter or just love to learn about the paranormal, taking a Ghost and Haunt Tour or an Appalachian Ghost Walk is another entertaining way to spend part of your Gatlinburg trip.
