The Best Part Of Fashion Is Having Fun While Being Different

The best part of fashion trends and fads is that you get to have fun doing something different. Of course, once everyone catches on to something, is not as unique as it was before and is not as fun. But meanwhile, what harm does it do to attempt something different, to set your style apart from the pack? The other cool thing about fads and trends is that when you see a picture of yourself, there is typically no need to explain more than just saying that it was the style. This answers all questions and you can not be blamed for looking silly if that was the style and were not the only ones who looked foolish.

So when your kids ask why you were wearing stone washed jeans and a cool jean jacket, you can reply with pride that it was the style and you had no choice in the matter. There are some things that never go out of style and if you are lucky enough to be caught wearing those particular things in a picture, you might get off free. But then of course, all one has to do is look at your hair cut and that is usually enough to give away a five year window as to when the picture was taken.

The trick is to either, not set your style apart from anybody else, and follow all the trends so that you have a built in excuse, or to only go with classic looks that fit in with any generation and any decade. The problem with that is that then you have to be prompted to do so by an older person, a parent or an older brother or sister, and conforming is not what teenagers do very well.

It is a fine balancing act, and not everybody has the balance or knows how to pull it off. So you might as well follow the trends and have some fun setting your own up for other people to catch up with. With a few exceptions, the styles will always change and so you really have no choice but to go along with them.

I love my Levi 501 jeans, but I have a new pair and a pair from the mid-nineties and they are not the same. They are labeled as the same thing, but even the classics get changed in the name of progress.
