The Best Way To Fail Is Not Fixing Your Goals

Setting your goals is the strongest tool you have in order to be successful.Visualizing a goal helps you to focus your energy and stay motivated. Your goal will inspire you to create a practical plan, step by step, to reach success.

Without setting up your goals, your dream will stay a dream. A goal is a positive statement about what you want to be, want to have or want to do.

What’s the difference between a dream and a goal?

Ø A goal has a deadline, an end in time.
Ø A goal is precise.
Ø A goal is written down.
Ø A goal generates an action plan.

Why is it important to explicitly set your goal? When your goals are not clearly defined, or when you have too many of them at the same time, it’s impossible to make them come true. You need to direct all your energy to your goal if you want to reach it. This is impossible if there are too many.

As long as your goals are only vaguely described, you cannot reach them. This is because your energy is scattered in too many directions, so you will be zigzagging instead of moving forward like a guided missile towards your goal. It is very important to be very clear about your goals before you can activate the creative forces that help you reach your goal.

The biggest obstacle that keeps you from being successful is the fact that you don’t clearly set your goals. If you only know more or less what you want, you can only more or less get it. As long as your goal is fuzzy, your results will be fuzzy too.

Everyone has a mechanism for success and a mechanism for failure. The mechanism for failure starts by doing nothing. The mechanism for success starts by setting your goals.

Every time you set a goal and you write it down, you push the button of the success mechanism. Goals help you direct your energy towards action. Setting up your goals is something you need to learn.

A sales person was dreaming of having a successful business and making a lot of money. He thought that, as soon as he would have plenty of money, he would have lots of free time and then finally get around to writing his movie scripts!

Notice that the real goalof this man was writing, and not being successful in his business! What a long way around! While he is busy making money, he is not doing what he really loves. He was not busy achieving his real goal, but instead he was spending his energy on something that does not help him move on or be happy. This approach is not efficient and is a waste of valuable time and energy.

You have to use your energy more effectively and directly aim at your goal. For this purpose, you have to stay focused on your goal and persistently work towards it, without being led astray or making a detour.

For your goal to be reached, it has to match these four criteria:

q Precise: you are giving your subconscious mind a set of precise instructions to work with. If your goal is fuzzy, then your subconscious will create fuzzy results.

q Positive: focusing on the positive will help you receive what you want, which is much more efficient than to “avoid what you don’t want.” If you focus on what you don’t want, you will get it anyway!

q Present Tense: your subconscious mind obeys the exact orders you give it. If you tell it that you will have or become something, your goal will stay in … the future! So formulate your goal in the present tense and act as if you got it already.

q First singular pronoun: Talk using « I »

Write your goal down on small flashcards and put them on your fridge, in your car, on the mirror, the bathroom door, the bedroom door. Simply, everywhere you walk by … to remind your subconscious of its “task” of giving you the things you want.
