Recession. Recession, Recession, when will this word be finally erased from the face of Webster and Google? Maybe us here in the Philippines is no longer alienated to that word, but to think that the US, the world's superpower, is slowly being eaten by this termite!
Few years ago, most of us felt like only few countries were having economic crisis same of what we are experiencing here, but it shook us to the core when most business firms on wall street sent a message of bankruptcy and instability. We now question, what will be the fate of our country, and most importantly, the future of our youth?
But according to the predictions based on sophisticated studies of the experts, the Philippines will not be experiencing the hardcore impact of recession, they even predicted that come 2010, we will already be experiencing a positive changes in the economy.
But will it change the hopes of our hungry countrymen?
As the world worries about the future, some Filipinos who already been bankrupt since the day they were born tend to worry more about the food for today, a new livelihood opportunity, and how their going to send their children to schools with something in their pocket. As the old Filipino saying goes, “ you lived and die with debts in your funeral”. It is unfortunate that the government are not being aggressive enough to meet their needs. Most of our public servants from the highest to the smallest units, practiced the vice of being “Buwaya” (alligator ) meaning, they only intend to be in the government for their selfish interests. But Filipino doesn't need all of that! He doesn't need expensive advertisement for political will, he doesn't need purchased votes. He doesn't need fancy dinner meetings, and certainly he doesn't need a “Buwaya” in his backyard! What he need is the assurance that food will be serve 3 times a day on his table. What he needs is fair educational opportunities for the poor and wealthy, what he needs is blind justice to free the oppressed and innocent. What he needs is job opportunities to be sufficient and secured, and most importantly, what he needs is a new political reforms, to end the dynasty of animal kingdom in the government! But let me make it clear, even though it is pretty obvious that our animal kingdom is eating most of the meat available, we must not exclude ourselves as an individual to the changes that has to be done, we must remember that we are the deciding factor, so it is our responsibility to make changes not only to improve our way of living but also for the country as a whole.
And there it goes, another familiar note of pouring out sentiments about an old habit. I hope it enlightens you a little bit and hopefully you we're able to learn something from this.
