The Catholic Church Embraces The Power Of The Iphone

Yes, you still need to shut off your cell phone ringer when you are in church but now there is a new iPhone application that you have the Vatican’s blessing to use in church. This new iPhone application could very well be an inroad to the technology oriented youth for the Vatican.

The Vatican is supporting a new iPhone application that brings the book of daily prayers onto of all things the Apple iPhone. The new application is called iBreviary and it is an iTunes application that was created by the Rev. Paolo Padrini. Padrini is a 35 year old priest with a penchant for hi-tech electronics. So he thought this would be a good way to bring the technology, cell phone technology, that so many people use into the fold of the Roman Catholic Church.

Padrini had received the blessing of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications to create a digital version of the Breviary prayer book. The digital prayer book is available in Italian, English, Spanish, French and Latin. The application also includes the prayers of the daily mass and various other prayers.

It is not yet known how popular the new digital book of daily prayers will be among the church leaders but it is gaining some momentum and has managed to stay off a list of the worst Phone applications.

The new iPhone application is available for around $1.10 and it has been downloaded around 10,000 times in Italy. According to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, the church is learning to use the new technologies as a way to share its message with the world.
