The Christian Gift Of Control
When you say, "You make me so mad," you're really just admitting that their words or their actions have power over you. As long as that person knows they can push your buttons, as long as you keep responding the same way, you are giving them exactly what they want! Sure, people have a right to say and do things that are upsetting, but we also have a right to not get offended. We have a right to overlook their actions. (Romans 12:18 NIV) says, "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." We will always have difficult people who try to upset us and attempt to steal our peace and joy. There will always be critics and naysayers throughout your entire life. You need to realize that you truly do not need EVERYONE to validate you. It is not what is said about you that affects your life, but what you say and truly believe about yourself that only truly matters! Go out of your way to be a blessing to others. Do your best to walk in peace and unity. As we serve one another in love, the Bible says the world will know that we are truly Christian. The world will recognize that we are true followers of Christ by our actions, and not just by our words. "…and His name shall be called…the Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6, KJV). In fact, the Christian Bible says that it is an honor for a person to keep "aloof" from strife! In other words, we should remove ourselves, either physically or emotionally from strife and offense. Sometimes that is not easy, especially if it comes from someone that we are close to, or has some power of authority over us or our career, but we can choose to let it roll right off of us, just like water off a duck's back! This is the Christian gift of control. (Proverbs 20:3, AMP) tells us, "It is an honor for a man to cease from strife and keep aloof from it, but every fool will quarrel." Always remember, you really do not need everyone to agree with you all the time. You really don't have to have the approval of others to be approved by God! Your job is to be the person God made you to be. The Lord has commanded that blessing will come upon you when you are at peace with your brothers and sisters. Always try your very best to overlook offenses and strife, and live in peace from day to day throughout your life. "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." (Colossians 3:15 NIV). I pray that you will make the decision today to stop allowing others steal your joy and peace of mind. When you truly make the effort to listen to God from day to day, and follow His direction throughout the day, then you will have the Christian gift of control, and experience peace of mind that He offers to all His children!
