MR2 is an abbreviation of Midship Runabout 2-seater, although some people simply call the car Mister Two. Toyota MR2 is a fun car to drive with its modern classy looks. It grabs the attention with its attractive curves. The first generation of MR2 appeared in 1984. The first two generation focussed on dynamics rather. With the third edition, much attention was paid to practicality.
With the introduction of the Toyota MR2, the whole new affordable sportscar segment appeared. Toyota’s send-off version of the MR2, the TF300, could be booked with an 182bhp turbocharged engine, as a dealer-fitted factory-approved conversion.
This modish looking car maintains the road contact terrifically and for extra steadiness Toyota has mounted the engine in the centre of the car. The powerful engine is smoothly responsive. However, despite all this, the suspension isn’t quite there; it’s very good, but not perfect when really pressing on.
The MR2 doesn’t disappoint its buyers regarding looks. The credit goes to the mid-engine configuration that gives it a low-slung nose. The MR2 has a satisfyingly sporty stance and is quite compact. The inside looks of the car isn’t great to charm buyers. However the cabin is plenty big enough for two people without luggage and the seats can be adjusted easily. This is definitely not a car to hold much luggage. People generally use it for the daily driving rather on holidays.
Overall, the car has attempted to include all sports car features with a sexy appeal, with certain drawbacks in practicality and interior set-up. If you are in market looking for an affordable sports car with some interesting Japanese refinements, Toyota MR2 can be considered as the most suited option.
