The Crazy World Of Collections

As hobbies go, collecting is without doubt a juggernaut of one. From coins and shoes to bird eggs and seashells, collecting is a great way of getting into a hobby with minimal effort. If you’ve got a keen interest in an item, it seems that if one accumulates related items, this eventually manifests itself into being a collection. However getting into colleting needs to be taken with some caution; thousands of people around the world have taken their collections to extreme fanatical levels.

The activity of collecting is believed to have been started by the Egyptians who collected ancient books from around the world and is kept, in what is now known as the Library of Alexandria. What started off as a small collection of books, increased significantly to being one of the largest collections in the world.

Some of the most common forms of collecting are stamps and coins. These items are both easily accessible and are simple to build up. From personal experience, as I child I found great excitement in collecting coins. I was initially given a small amount of old coins from a relative, this started off my hobby in collecting coins. This also encouraged me to scour the internet to find rare coins and I always came back from holiday saving a few coins to add to my collection. Unlike some collectors who become over-passionate about their collections, I was not one of them and unfortunately my coins are now tucked away safely in the loft.

A favourite pastime of a number of collectors in the UK is collecting memorabilia relating to the Royal family. From the stereotypical royal tea towels that are found hidden away somewhere in most kitchens up and down the country to the more expensive exquisite royal china ware there are some fanatical collectors about.

Someone who claims to have the largest collection of royal memorabilia is Margaret Tyler from London. Her collection of royal souvenirs comprises of china, tea towels, books and even royal toys! The collection is so large and worth so much, Tyler has insured her collection for £40,000 and is struggling for room in her house to keep the items. The whole house is a kitsch tribute to the Royal Family, covered from wall to wall with items from her collection. Mrs Tyler was even rejected planning permission to extend her house to house yet further items.

Another form of collectibles is shoes. This will come as no surprise to many as shoes are a secret obsession of millions of men and women globally. Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Louboutin are just some of the brands that many women lust about collecting. Some people are so obsessive over these collections that they purchase these shoes and only admire from afar and do not even wear them.

However it seems that some people have managed to find a brand of footwear which not only can they collect but also wear! FitFlop footwear has been around for a couple of years now, helping men and women walk their way into getting toned legs and bottoms. FitFlop produce fantastic styles of sandals, shoes and boots.
