The Danger Of Some Acne Removal Products On Pregnant Women

It is worthy to note that unborn babies react many a times negatively to a wide range of acne removal products that are commonly available over the counter. In the light of this fact, serious care must be taken about the type of over the counter acne product that you are using while in pregnancy.

It is even so serious that not only does the pregnant woman have to be careful, even intending to be pregnant mothers have to take caution. Therefore if you are pregnant or you intend to be pregnant, your doctor may have to give you special acne treatment options. The reason for this word of caution is that there are some acne treatments that can some serious negative effect on the development of the fetus if it is taken by the pregnant woman.

Isotretinoin

Isotretinoin could cause abnormalities in developing fetus hence the tablet is banned for the pregnant mothers or the intending to be pregnant mothers. It is so serious that U.K. government is insisting on a "pregnancy prevention programme" for any woman that has prescription of Isotretinoin. It is also mandatory that you must have Isotretinoin test before treatment at least once a month during acne treatment and for nothing less than five weeks after you have stopped the acne treatment.

It is further recommended that you must continue the use of contraception for at least month after stopping it the use of Isotretinoin for acne treatment should have a pregnancy test before treatment, monthly during treatment and 5 weeks after stopping it, and you must also continue to use contraception for at least a month after stopping the use of Isotretinoin for acne treatment. It is not only in U.K. that there is regulation on the use of Isotretinoin, he U.S. government has similar regulations.

Tretinoin

The effect of Tretinoin cream is also similar to that of Isotretinoin on pregnancy, therefore it is advisable not to use it for acne treatment. It could be argued that Tretinoin cream is just being applied to the skin yet small amount is absorbed into the blood stream and there is possibility of its reaching the fetus in the womb.

Tetracycline

The effect of Tetracycline is a bit different from the other two previous one. In its case it could damage the development of the teeth and bones of the fetus. For this reason pregnant women or those that have intention of getting pregnant are discouraged from using the Tetracycline antibiotics.

The most common acne removal or acne treatment product that is generally recommended for pregnant women is Benzoyl peroxide cream or gel. This is because Benzoyl peroxide has little or no effect on the fetus development.

There are still few other products that can really be of benefit to pregnant women. These are products containing salicylic acid. When it comes to antibiotics, the only antibiotic that is regarded safe for acne removal in pregnancy is Erythromycin.

Finally since some of these product could be obtained with really consulting medical specialist, it is better for pregnant women to make do with some common home acne treatment like regular washing of the acne infected area to be free from oil, the eating of plenty fruits and vegetables while the pregnancy lasts. After the child birth the other acne treatment product could be used.
