I often refer to web designers as game developers as there are many similarities between the histories of both industries. The is becoming more apparent as building a good website that people want to visit again and again and have the features that most visitors expect these days are becoming out of reach for the traditional bedroom designer.

This is true that website needs the skill of different people these days and it is rare to see one person having all the skill needed to create a successful website although I’m sure there are exceptions to the rule. Let’s take a look of some of the skill needed to create a modern website.

Graphic designers are very creative and understand colour in a way that’s escapes most web developers. You rarely find one individual that can do both as they has different ways of thinking.

With website being far more interactive these days and go far beyond simple HTML. The services of a web developer are needed. It is not a simple process to learn php, asp, MySQL and the like. For a website to have a fully functional back office system that allows them to update products and set currency etc you need a web developer to do the work for you.

Web Usability

If you want you website to flow correctly and be simply to use even when some advanced navigation has been implemented then website usability is needed to make it as easy to use as possible. Website architecture also falls under the umbrella of web usability and also web accessibility and this section should be given attention if you want your website to be as successful as it possibly can be.

So you can now see that the days of a bedroom designer are coming to a close just like the days when one man could create a million selling video game Jet Set Willy springs to mind. SO if you want your website to sell your products these things have to be implemented to make your website a success in the ever changing World of web design.
