The Decade That Wasn’t A Bore
•In 2001 Ajit Dewani, a secretary to many Bollywood stars, was murdered by underworld. •In 2002 Salman Khan created a ruckus with his then girlfriend Aishwarya Rai on the sets of Shah Rukh Khan's (SRK) Chalte Chalte. Immediately after the incident SRK had replaced Aishwarya Rai with Rani Mukherji. Thereafter, Aishwarya Rai had alleged that Khan beat her up and cheated on her during their relationship. •In January 2003 after a high profile engagement Abhishek Bacchan and Kaishma Kapoor broke off due to unknown reasons. The two were supposed to get tie the knot in April of the same year. A few months later Karishma married Delhi businessman Sanjay Kapoor •The same year, Vivek Oberoi called a public press conference and claimed that Salman Khan had pestered him with 40 plus abusive calls with regards to Vivek’s then lady love Aishwarya Rai. •In 2004 a Mumbai tabloid published photographs of Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur sharing a prolonged and a passionate liplock. Many considered it to be Bollywood’s first big papparazzi strike. •In 2005 a news channel conducted a sting operation on Bollywood villain Shakti Kapoor and TV star Aman Varma to expose the casting couch in Bollywood. The actors were caught on tape with Ruchi (an undercover reporter) in questionable circumstances. •Preity Zinta and businessman Ness Wadia started dating in 2005. •2006 opened with tales of Raveena Tandon pouring a drink over her husband Amit Thadani’s ex-wife at a party hosted by Farhan Akhtar's best friend. •In 2006 the singer Mika kissed Rakhi Sawant and the item queen didn’t leave a stone unturned to turn it into big news. •The black buck case resurfaced in 2006 and Salman Khan spent a few days in jail. •2007 witnessed an out and out filmy shaadi when Abhishek Bacchan tied knot with Aishwarya Rai. It was also a year of break-ups. The so-much-in love couple Kareena and Shahid Kappor was not in love anymore. Kareena started seeing Saif Ali Khan during the shooting of ‘Tashan’. •Well, if you talk of filmy pungas then 2008 saw many of them. The famous one was Shahrukh-Salman spat at Katrina Kaif’s birthday party in July. It’s believed that the two of them are not on talking terms since then. •In 2009 Shiney Ahuja was arrested for allegedly raping his maid in his Oshiwara residence. Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were arrested on obscenity charges and released on bail. Well, the incident happened at Tarun Tahiliani's Levi's show in Mumbai and it was a zip and unzip act that irked the moral brigade of our country. Akshay had asked Twinkle to unzip him on the ramp. The dimpled actress Preity Zinta’s relationship with Ness Wadia went kaput in 2009. Stories like Mr Wadia avoiding Preity during IPL matches and press conferences kept the gossip mills busy! For the uninitiated ones both of them own a team in IPL. •In 2010 Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori became an item for the paparazzi. Sonam Kapoor and Punit Malhotra, the director of ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ called Shobha De a fossil on Twitter after De wrote on her blog that Malhotra should be spanked for making the film. Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor, who were both linked to Ranbir Kapoor once, took potshots at the young Kapoor at Koffe with Karan. This had upset Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor so much so that he’d told the press he would not work with Karan Johar in future.
