The Diabetes Prevention Program Finds The Merits Of Using Generic Glucophage (metformin) In Diabetes

Changing lifestyle and eating habits are increasing instances of diabetes in worldwide populations. The worrying rise of this disease has increased the research in the development of medications to curb its explosion. There are a number of programs being developed world over to educate people on diabetes, its causes, harmful effects, preventive measures and medications. Generic Metformin (Glucophage) is one of the drugs used against diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program is one such study conducted in the US that tries to evaluate if users that buy Glucophage are better at preventing diabetes than those that undergo nominal weight loss.

Diabetes - Type 2 Diabetes
The pancreas generates a hormone known as insulin. This hormone is responsible for breaking down blood sugar. An abnormality in its actions causes an increase in blood sugar (glucose), resulting in a state known as pre-diabetes. This type of diabetes depends on the nature in which insulin in the body is affected. There are three main types of diabetes – type-1, type-2 and gestational diabetes. Type-1 diabetes is predominantly detected at a young age. In this type of diabetes, the pancreas simply stops insulin production, as the beta cells in the pancreas that create insulin, are somehow destroyed by the body’s internal protection system.

The second type, known as Type 2 diabetes, is the most predominantly affecting diabetes and can occur at any age. This is a result of poor eating habits, lifestyle actions, etc. that continue to raise the insulin requirements of the body. At a certain point, the demand exceeds supply of insulin and this increases the presence of free glucose in the blood stream. The third main type of diabetes is gestational diabetes, which usually arises during the end of a pregnancy period. Hormonal changes or inadequate insulin are the basic reasons behind gestational diabetes.

Diabetes Prevention Program & importance of Glucophage (Metformin)
The Diabetes Prevention Program was developed in the United States to research the best preventive measures in pre-diabetes conditions. This program was meant to study its impact on pre-diabetes patients. Three groups were selected with pre-diabetes conditions and each was given different preventive measures – exercise and diet control; use of Metformin and the third being placebo pills of Metformin. The results of this program was that although it is essential to have regular exercise and diet control, the use of Metformin is an added preventive tactic that can be successfully used in preventing the advent of diabetes.

The problem with pre-diabetes condition is that the motivation needed to carry out exercises and diet control is very difficult in average pre-diabetic patients. Those that are diagnosed with this condition may not understand the gravity of the situation and may not be strict in the daily regimen set out by their physicians. On the other hand, users can simply buy Glucophage (Metformin) and use it at set timings. It is much easier to pop in a medication than be very disciplined with dieting and exercises. Users should bear in mind that the use of Generic Glucophage (Metformin) doesn’t completely negate the importance of diet or exercise, but it should rather be used as a concomitant assistance. Users should discuss the importance of Metformin with their physicians before they order Glucophage online or purchase Glucophage from a regular drugstore.
