The Empowerment Of Choice

You are destined for greatness! What are you waiting for? You have some very important and powerful choices to make. You have opportunities to both teach and learn each day. Will you make the most of each opportunity? You have knowledge, skills, abilities, talents and a purpose to contribute to the journey called life. Are you willing to bless others with your gifts?

Life is all about choices. Even during the most difficult and challenging times, we have choices.

I’ve been very blessed with extraordinary mentors who have assisted me in opening my mind and heart to the empowerment of choice and decision. One mentor, Erica Combs, asked me the following, “How serious are you about creating your experience versus settling in your circumstance?” Wow! What a kick in the pants!

Ever since then, whenever faced with a situation, I ask myself, “Are you going to be a victim of your circumstance or the creator of your experience?” I prefer to be a victor and create the experiences I desire and deserve in life. You deserve the same.

Another mentor taught me that even when I felt I had no control over a situation, I did have control of my choices, decisions, attitude and responses to a situation. Simply, I had the choice to accept it, change it or leave it.

I reflected on this statement and felt empowered moving forward. I find difficult or challenging circumstances much less daunting now that I am empowered by the choice to accept it, change it or leave it. Let’s take a closer look at each option.

Accept it. You have the choice to accept the situation. Acknowledge that you are exactly where you are supposed to be right now. Perhaps there is a lesson you are to learn or one you are to teach. Perhaps there is someone you are to meet. Each situation, no matter how challenging, presents small “gifts” or learning opportunities. However, the “gift” may not be obvious for some time.

Change it. Some choose to embrace change enthusiastically while others choose to view change with trepidation and discomfort. It is sometimes easier to “put up with” an uncomfortable or disheartening situation than to face the unknown awaiting you behind the door marked “Change”.

What are your reasons for not changing a situation that no longer serves you? Ask yourself, “Why am I hesitant to make a change?” Reflect on the situation and how it makes you feel versus how you desire to feel – how you deserve to feel. Choose to break the cycle. Consider the many ways you may implement change so that you may be the creator of your experience and not just the victim of your circumstance. If your why is big enough, you will be more willing to persevere through the growing pains that nearly always accompany change. Henry Ford said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.”

Leave it. There are at least two ways to interpret and apply this choice-point. After assessing your current situation and comparing it to the life or feeling you desire and deserve, you may choose to physically walk away from the situation…to leave it behind and create anew. Or you may choose to “leave it on the shelf” until you are feeling empowered and ready to make the choice to accept it, change or leave it (walk away).

The choice IS yours. Decide. Choose to be happy. Choose to be a contributor. Choose to teach and learn each day. Choose to live in your passion and purpose. Choose to be empowered. Choose to create your experience.

YOU are destined for greatness…so what are you waiting for?
