The Etymology Of ‘nostalgia’

We all feel nostalgic at one point or another in our lives. It’s common to hark back to ‘the good old days’ when things were simpler, life was easier, TV was better and toys were real toys, not like the sort of things you find in the shops today.

Nostalgia isn’t something new however. People have been feeling nostalgic, referring to times gone by as better times, for hundreds and thousands of years. Even in ancient Roman times the public would comment how Caesars of the past were better than the current Caesar, and how society as a whole was better when they were younger. It’s a condition of human nature, and one that we should welcome with open arms.

Thanks to this feeling of nostalgia we all look for retro gifts, such as classic gifts, toys and games, for our loved ones and often for ourselves. Rather than buying something new, buying vintage gifts shows that a great deal of thought has gone into the present, and you’re not just giving the gift itself, you’re giving every nostalgic feeling that goes with that gift.

Emotions and memories are often tied to retro gifts, so giving classic gifts means to give the gift of memories.
