The Eurocrisis Is Spreading

The Eurozone has been created with the common goal of driving the economic efficiency of the participant European countries. In having one economic government, one currency and one foreign policy, European member states were supposed to form stronger bonds, from an economic and political viewpoint. However, in spite of the fact that the concept that stands at the basis of the Eurozone is one that has been developed with the best intentions, cracks in the infrastructure of the European economy are becoming visible by the day.

Much like in the case of many other fiat monetary units, there has always been a possibility for the official currency of the Eurozone, the Euro, to fail in performing all its duties. But this grim scenario has transformed into reality when the tension has intensified in several countries from the Eurozone, namely Greece, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. In these countries, the stability of the European common currency has been seriously shaken, mainly because of the large national debts and the ongoing global financial crisis.

Of the four European member states, previously mentioned, Greece has been the most affected. The situation has become unmanageable here because of the staggering Greek public debts. To prevent further economic deterioration, in June 2011, the Greek government has implemented a series of harsh austerity measures, which have been met with protests all over Greece.

In front of all these dangers, one can never be too cautious. Whether you are an investor or simply a European citizen, you probably want to keep your income undiminished, though with all the financial fluctuations and the crisis in the Eurozone, such an endeavor can prove a real challenge.

However, the euro crisis has made gold shine. This precious metal has always been a loyal ally in times of recession and it remains a great insurance in times like this as well. Gold retains its purchase power and its value increases even when the fiat currencies start to lose their credibility.
