The Fda And The Electronic Cigarette

As the electronic cigarette has gained popularity more and more people are turning to them for their smoking satisfaction. Many use the electronic cigarette to either quit smoking or to cut down on their smoking frequency. But, much like regular cigarettes, the electronic cigarette delivers a dose of nicotine to the user. The deliver is different in that the electronic delivers nicotine by way of vapor instead of smoke.

Here enters the FDA. For years the FDA has been telling us about the harmful effects of nicotine. It is considered to be an addictive drug that gets you hooded and never really lets you go. For this reason the FDA does not recommend the electronic cigarette. The FDA still considers the drug to be harmful, even though there is the absence of smoke.

There is little doubt, even by avid smokers, that smoking is harmful to one’s health. But before electronic cigarettes we were told about the harmful effects of smoke. It contains carcinogens that may lead to cancer. It can also cause COPD, emphysema, and a persistent cough. The smoker is 50 times more likely to suffer a heart attack than the non smoker.

So when the electronic cigarette hits the market the FDA quickly denounces it because of the nicotine. They have not held any studies that determine the effect of nicotine on the body when it is not delivered by smoke. Unless, and until they do further research they will never be able to provide a sound analysis of the electronic cigarette.

Many researchers feel the FDA is simply being too biased about the electronic cigarette. Why would the want to prevent something that could possibly lead somebody to quitting smoking entirely. At a recent press conference they denounced the electronic cigarette entirely but there were some things they failed to tell the public.

Regular cigarettes are very dangerous because they deliver large amounts of smoke into the lungs. This leads to various types of lung disorders and can even lead to death. Electronic cigarettes do not deliver nicotine through smoke. It is delivered through a vapor. The vapor is harmless and does not contain harmful toxins.

Before cigarettes there was tobacco. People used it in different ways but rarely did they use it for smoking. They might chew it or even smoke it in a pipe but they did not inhale the smoke the way they do from cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes do not use tobacco at all. The nicotine is delivered through a vapor that is produced by a battery, not by fire.

Electronic cigarettes are a nicotine delivery system. There are plenty of nicotine delivery systems that are FDA approved such as the patch, nicotine gum, and nicotine lozenges. There is also a nicotine inhaler that allows you to inhale nicotine. The FDA recognizes all of these things as ways to quit smoking. If you really want to quit smoking, or just to cut back on the amount of smoke you inhale, you should give the electronic cigarette a try. Don’t let the FDA scare you away from the possibility of many potential health benefits that may be found with the electronic cigarette.
