The Fear Of Public Speaking

Every person at one point in time has feared speaking in public. Some individuals establish a knack for public speaking while others develop a distressing anxiety. Most people that have a public speaking anxiety, it's not really speaking in front of others that terrifies them, it’s the idea that a group of people will be focused entirely on them. Thoughts race through their head ‘What if my mind goes blank and I can't remember what to say or where I was?’ or ‘What if the audience hates my presentation?’ This is where the physical discomfort sets in and takes control. The feeling of butterflies in the stomach, the sweaty hands, the trembling, the nausea. Just like any other phobia, it brings with it a largely detrimental effect on the individuals personal or professional life.

The anxiety of public speaking is far more widespread than you may understand. The vast majority of people in the world suffer from at least a mild to severe form of Glossophobia (aka Fear of Public Speaking). It’s also very challenging for most people to conquer. For most people they never learn to break out of their shell because they do not believe in their ability to learn a new skill such as public speaking. Yet, just like any other skill, public speaking is something that can be can be mastered and you can overcome your fear of public speaking! It will take a lot of practice and dedication, but it is absolutely possible to overcome your fear of public speaking.

Thorough rehearsing, breathing techniques, a positive mindset, and beliving in yourself all will greatly help you in overcoming your fear of public speaking, which in turn will make your personal and professional life more fulfilling.
