The Golf Swing Release - How To Hit The Ball Further And Straighter

The golf swing release is perhaps the least understood mechanic of the golf swing process but if you are to play good golf it is important to understand this key concept.

The golf swing release is where the power comes from in your shots. Following the correct setup of grip and stance, the body coils in a spring action as the club is taken further back round the body. Once it reaches the top of the back swing the coil action is complete. Rather like winding a clock spring.

If you stop and think about this body position for a minute, when you are at the top of the backswing, and how the hands get to be back at the exact same position they were at the address, you begin to realise how important the golf swing release is in the golf shot.

As the downswing begins the body starts to uncoil and the hands and arms rotate as the clubface approaches the ball at impact. It is this unwinding which is the powerhouse of the golf swing and where maximum clubhead speed and power, can be generated.

To learn this action, swing the club back until the wrists are fully hinged, usually at about waist height, then swing down and through the shot, stopping at waist height on the follow through. In doing this you will feel the arns and hands rotating down and through the shot. You will also be aware of the power and speed this generates. Get used to having the wrists snapping through the shot, as this will enable you to hit long, straight golf shots.

I know this tip has helped me hit the ball much further than I thought possible. As it works for me so it can for you too. I once out drove the local golf professional after praticing this technique, then fluffed my approach shot to the green. But that's another story.
