The Growth Of Satellite Internet

Convenience is always the goal when it comes to any new kind of development, especially when it is to be consumed commercially. This is especially true of technology and making the most convenient, easy to use equipment on the market. This is the case for items like satellite internet as well. Satellite technology has been around for a few decades now, but only fairly recently has its power been harnessed to bring the wonderful online world to people all over the world, no matter how random and far out their location may be.

Satellites were first launched into space in the 1950s with scientists working to use the technology to establish wireless connections across great expanses of land. It was not until the early 1970s that scientists were able to successfully connect a few European computers with an American network by using satellites. This introduced a whole new level of efficiency in terms of exchanging and accessing information from all over the world. This idea ushered in the development of satellite internet since the internet is itself a massive body of information, connecting people across the globe.

1996 marks the year when the first consumer satellite internet company came on the scene. This idea opened up a whole new world of possibilities for people in rural locations. For the longest time, individuals who lived in areas far away from an internet provider were stuck with using dial-up to connect to the internet. The insanely slow connection and limited browsing capabilities made it almost not worth even trying to use the internet. The option of using satellites in order to access the internet meant an improvement in practically every way imaginable, from the speed of the connection to the much broader realm of potential activities online.

The ability to connect to the internet through a means other than dial-up was revolutionary, and as technology improves, the possibilities become even greater. Now people in rural areas can get high speed connections that are almost on par with cable or DSL. Satellite internet allows people to enjoy almost all of the online luxuries of living in a big city or town, yet still live in a more secluded area of the country or even world. Satellite technology connects people with one another all over the globe, vastly expanding people’s ability to exchange information, ideas, and experiences.
