The History Of Gucci

The famous fashion house of Gucci was founded in Florence, Italy in 1921. It is the biggest selling Italian brand in the world, operating 425 stores worldwide as well as selling designer items through franchises and department stores. While Guccio Gucci was responsible for the first boutique and an additional extension into Rome, it was his wife Aldo and their four sons who brought the brand into prominence in New York Paris and London after his death.

But Gucci himself was responsible for designing many of the lovely products that became popular the world over. The bamboo handled handbag and the suede moccasin with the metal bit are two famous products that helped take the famous brand to stardom. The hot-tempered Italian family was well known for it's infighting and it was not unusual to see handbags flying through the air at board meetings.

It was not until around the 1960s that the famous GG Gucci logo came into being. Around the same time the Flora silk scarf worn by Grace Kelly and the Jackie O shoulder bag came into prominence. In the late 1970s the company almost floundered due to some bad business decisions, however a decade later that was turned around and Gucci became the prominent name that it remains to this day.
