The History Of Jeeps

When most people think of the history of Jeeps they tend to think of the more current vehicles and tend to forget the older models. The Jeep history is quite rich and actually entwined with North America's military history quite deeply. If it hadn't been for the Jeep line of vehicles many people would have died in WW2 and the following wars. Yes it was that vital .

When Jeeps first premiered, they are primarily used in the U.S. Military. The Army needed a rugged and dependable vehicle for soldiers to use. The Jeep was almost not considered to be used, but it had a lot of torque, and the army needed that, and so, it became the workhorse of the armed forces. During WW2, the Jeep had a number of uses, and some were even outfitted with heavy machine guns and used as reconnaissance vehicles.

Jeeps served other uses as well. They were used for as medical transports, supply trucks, and accommodated most roles it was required. Its flexibility helped soldiers in WW2, and the Korean, and Vietnam wars as well. More than a few soldiers during these wars often said that you could not kill a Jeep. They had to endure quite a pounding for them not to work at all. The history of the Jeep is so comprehensive, no wonder it is often called the best example of great design and utility.

The Jeep history is not just restricted to military uses however. It has been one of the most favored 4 wheeled off road vehicles ever designed. Many civilian organizations use Jeeps in mountainous places. The U.S. Postal Service even has used Jeeps. Civilians most use Jeeps for the outdoors. Offroading. When camping, they can get to places that are not easily accessible by other vehicles and Jeeps have much storage space.

Many campers will only use Jeep's particularly for the ruggedness and capability of the vehicle. Keep in mind the vehicle has also made its way into fire fighting services, and forest services as well. There isn't really a function that the Jeep can't fill.

Over time, several makes and models of cars have lessened their reliability and quality because they have been made cheaper. Many car companies try to save money with plastics to replace metals. You will not find this in a Jeep however. The quality of the Jeep has been maintained, and its attributes speak for themselves.

The Jeep name has changed many hands over the years since it was first made for the Army. Currently the owner of the name Jeep is Chrysler; however Ford has had a part in making Jeeps for the military and is currently at arms over the grill design. The replacement for the Jeep called the Hummer was designed to make everything about the Jeep better . However the Jeep is still used around the world in military and civilian roles.

The history of Jeeps is a long and detailed one with so much info it's hard to fit it into one article. all through the Jeeps history there have been many upgrades, changes in design, and unauthorized modifications to it to make it fit into any role that is needed at the moment. The civilian versions are favored by campers around the world for getting them where they want to go.
