The Hottest Thing In The Art World Today

Many people are interested in the English style of decorating but there is more to it than just the picture frames and china. With this, dog portraits are very popular these days from the Victorian Era it was said in a magazine. It was known that around 15,000 to 30,000 years ago cave walls already had dog paintings.

Not leaving the royal dogs behind, when Queen Victoria asked for her children to be painted they were also part of it. To Country squires their dogs are special to them as they get to have titles and portraits too. It was always taken into consideration in the family records.

It was only around the 1800s that the dog portraiture industry became a big hit to many people. It was not long until almost everyone wanted a portrait of their dog. In a country like Great Britain the population is around 20 million to 30 million and with that there were 6 million people who knew how to paint animals.

Today many of the work of these people despite being amateurs are bought by many people. People who collected painting like how these raw paintings looked like say an arts consultant. Normally the pets in paints would be mixed breed. A New York gallery owner and former director of the dog museum of America said that the pictures of purebred dogs were highly collected.

The purebred portraits drew collectors more particularly if they had a breed in mind. Currently people are interested in the cavalier King Charles spaniel since it is a society dog. The best purebred portraits sometimes match the price of sporting portraits.

There are many placed that one can get a portrait of a dog. These places would include Art galleries, auction houses, private dealers and antique and thrift shops. Flea markets and garage sales may not be places you want to search in.

But wherever you intend to buy, make a research first. In times when you want to acquire a portrait of a certain breed it is wise to read more about it especially in the early 19th century breed books.

If you are getting your piece in an auction, research is really important. Normally, buys are left on their own as there is now assurance on the authenticity of the piece. There are cases when a good dealer will go the extra mile and help guarantee the validity of the piece. It is still best if you do your own research then completely put your faith in the hands of your dealer.
