The differences in crime rates in various countries are interesting. In the past they were influenced by differing cultural values but in the Global Village changes are afoot. In very bad countries residents become prisoners in their own homes. People in countries with low crime rates may find the lifestyle incredible but may soon becomes aware themselves of the importance of alarm system to combat crime.

In countries where the national police force is either ineffective or in collusion with criminals citizens must perforce look after themselves. They install warning systems and band together to protect themselves as was done in the Middle Ages. It is common for private security firms to thrive. They have radio links with their clients and respond to alarm calls and panic buttons.

Criminals in certain countries rob, terrorize and assault with impunity. Cars cannot be left unguarded, vulnerable people cannot walk alone in the streets because criminals target the vulnerable, particularly the elderly and female. Society is permeated by crooks who are in places of work, hospitals, schools and in the streets. In really sick societies they are often in positions of power, in politics and the corridors of power.

A real story illustrates the plight of people living in crime ridden societies. A man was working late at night in his house with the lights on. Outside all was dark but the alarm system had not be activated because the man assumed that he was safe within his own home. The crash of breaking glass disabused him of this assumption. A robber had smashed a whole pane of glass by throwing a brick through it and was in the house threatening the resident with a long knife.

The man's mistake was to assume that he was safe within his residence. In fact a prowler had been watching from the darkness outside and used the latest technique, apparently used now throughout the world of sudden violent attack when the victim is off guard. Illumination, normally thought of as a defense, becomes a aid to crime and violence.

In at least one country where crime is endemic short term insurance companies raise their premiums for clients living in a neighborhood where a new building is being erected. This is because construction workers use the opportunities whilst at work to assess exactly who the neighbors are, what their habits are and what security arrangements are in place.

People who wish to get on with decent lives tend to emigrate from crime ridden countries and settle in countries like Australia, or Canada where low crime rates are suggested statistically. However, not everyone can escape and those who are forced to stay have to band together and find ways to survive independently of state security systems.

Once useful piece of information emanating from crime soaked countries may be that crime is now international. Uneducated children in Africa use the latest methods that are witnessed on the world media or perhaps taught by international criminals. For this reason people in countries with low crime rates need to be aware of the the importance of alarm system that help them stay a step ahead of criminals.
