The Importance Of Sunlight On Our Health
We all know the fact that the sun is the source of life of many living things and that includes us humans. The sun gives us heat and light. In our case, it also helps us synthesize vitamin D. Vitamin D is used by our body to balance the levels of calcium and phosphorus in our bloodstream and bones. It is used as a means for calcium to be stored in the bones to make it strong. The ultraviolet rays from the sun also help destroy some germs and bacteria. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight, especially if you have fair skin, can cause unwanted conditions such as skin cancer and cell aging. Skin cancer has become an epidemic. This is most likely caused by the fad of skin tanning. Some of the procedures used to achieve skin tan are sun bathing and artificial skin tanning using a tanning machine. Both of these procedures are considered dangerous to the skin. If this is so, how long do we need to stay under the sun to achieve its maximum therapeutic effect? Considering the intensity of the sun's heat, the recommended time is 5 to 30 minutes. The most advisable time to be under the sun is in the morning preferably during sunrise when the sun's heat is not yet strong. However, if you are going out and staying for a long time under the sun, you should wear sunscreen lotion and wear sunglasses that block ultraviolet rays. Sunlight has a good benefit on our health and it should not be considered the enemy. However, just like any other good thing, too much of it can cause harm. Both moderation and proper skin protection must be observed.
