The Kindle Ebook Reader Now Available In Target Stores
Two separate reports from Engadget report that Target will start promoting the Amazon Kindle on April 25 and Best Buy begins selling the Barnes & Noble Nook on April 18. The blog posted a screen shot of the Target inventory listing, which showed the Amazon Kindle for $259. Engadget also got its hands on an image of a very similar shot from Best Buy's inventory, which listed the Nook. I am employed at a Target Store in Alabama, and we haven't started marketing the Kindle Portable Ebook Reader as of June 9th, in spite of a statement indicating we would start demonstrating and selling it on June 6. I came across one more story indicating the Kindle will be publicised in Target's sale paper in Sunday, June 7, newspapers. I do know our initial stock is here. I found it interesting is that not one in 10 of our employees has any idea exactly what an ebook reader is or really does. Target test marketed the Kindle and news reports say the Kindle was flying from the shelves. Before now, the Kinle ebook reader could only be bought from Amazon or on Ebay (Unofficially, gray market and with inflated prices.) Amazon was advertising a plan whereby they'd provide prospective customers with the names and telephone numbers of agreeable Kindle owners living in close proximity to them where they may see it and get a limited amount of hands-on time. Putting the unit out somewhere it might be seen and played with will boost the sales and provide even more competition to others that are available. Kindle continues to be the most used portable ebook reader since it was first launched. A spokesperson for Barnes & Noble said, "We have not made any press releases," while Best Buy said, "As a matter of media policy, we are unable to discuss rumor or speculation." Target also said it "doesn't have anything at all to share at this point and won't discuss rumors or speculation." Amazon wouldn't immediately answer to a request for comment. Target is selling the Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-505 at its stores since Sept. 14, 2008, along with Reader add-ons like eBook Store prepaid cards, lighted covers, USB cables, AC chargers, and holders for all cables and chargers. The Nook is available online and Barnes & Noble bookstores. The Kindle is available directly from Amazon.com, but it's not been available in brick-and-mortar stores. The Apple iPad, which features e-book functionality, might be found online, at Apple retailers, and at Best Buy. Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com I am a retired computer geek. I am also an avid reader. I think the ebook reader is a product whose time has come. At this time, my personal preference is the nook ebook reader |
