The Most Popular Downloadable Games For Xbox Live

Downloadable gaming is nothing new to the video game marketplace. For years, gaming companies, both small and large, have been developing and distributing small games for the PC. If you own an Xbox 360, then there is a pretty good chance you’ve played most of their downloadable arcade games such as Geometry Wars. If you have, then you know what I’m talking about when I say the variety and quality of the games available is quite impressive.

Countless Live Arcade titles are available for gamers with an Internet-connected 360. They come at a low cost if any at all for you too since most are free to try while others cost between five to twenty dollars. You’ll find old-school hits such as Joust or Gauntlet, and new games like the above mentioned Geometry Wars. Here is a list of the most popular and downloaded games this year.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night – Hands down, this is one of the greatest games ever made, and guess what, it is over ten years old! That’s pretty impressive. Castlevania features a good mixture of action gameplay with a touch of exploration. There are a ton of secrets to discover, with one of the best soundtracks ever for a videogame. This is a fantastic game for all those hardcore and old school gamers alike.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved – The concept and strategy of Geometry Wars seems pretty simple, yet it is so addictive. I’ve seen myself spend a few hours playing this little game only to realize how much time elapsed later on. For only 400 points you can download both the original version which first appeared in Project Gotham Racing 2 and also the Evolved version comes with better graphics.

Worms – This fun and addicting little turn-based strategy game pits teams of worms against each other in all out warfare. You are armed with a variety of weapons of bombs, guns, and sheep…yes sheep. Pretty much you can use almost anything for a weapon. Already a hit on as a computer game for years, Worms gets the chance to prove why on the Xbox Live. While it isn’t as refined as some of the other versions of the game out there, it is still worth the 800 points for it.

Uno – Some of you may remember this game from your Kindergarten years. This underground favorite was one of the best and most popular games available in the Xbox Live Arcade. Uno was popular because it was easy for everyone to learn how to play. It didn’t hurt that it was a good game all around, either. You have the ability to listen to custom soundtracks or talk with other players while you are playing.

Doom – Anyone that plays video games has played Doom at some point in their lives. That same Doom you played on your PC years ago is the same one available for Xbox Live. It still is the same fast paced game, filled with all those cool weapons and monsters. What makes this version of the game so good is that not only does it come with a single player campaign but also a co-op and deathmatch option.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – This classic is another old school games which holds up surprisingly well after all these years. The Mortal Kombat series has never been known for deep gameplay, and this one is no different. It still is the same Mortal Kombat with its violence, blood, and fatalities.
