You don’t always need a massive budget to launch a very effective marketing campaign. A well-organized small business can take advantage of many opportunities the larger companies will never be able to fully capitalize on. Make sure your company is aware of the variety of marketing techniques you have at your fingertips. People like to feel close to a business, and can often be put off by the larger corporations. I always enjoy those local stores for the simple fact that they have a lot of character and know what it’s like living in my area. When I give them business I’m directly helping the local economy, something I can’t say when I shop at the gigantic retail chain stores. The important part in marketing with a small business is to use the fact that you’re small and local to the best advantage you can. Take note of all the different local events that happen all the time around any kind of city. What kinds of activities are the local schools taking part of and what kinds of events can you help sponsor? Start making your company an integral part of the town you’re doing business in. Something as simple as flyer printing can give you a cheap and easy way to market. Marketing doesn’t always entail just showing what great kinds of products you have. If you are going to help sponsor an event why not print off a number of flyers and place them up at different local hotspots? Maybe use some poster printing to tell people about upcoming events. The fact that your name is associated with these events does a lot to instill a good feeling in people when they think about you. You don’t have to be limited to just what you’re taking part in, either. If you’re going to use poster printing anyways why not get some posters for other things going on around town and put them up in your store. When a person walks in, make sure they can see that you know what goes on around town and you’re doing your part to help things out. Local branches of larger corporations try these kinds of tactics all the time. The reasons is because they understand that a little flyer printing can go a long way to get themselves into that inner circle of local citizens. If you’re running a true small business that was founded and raised in one specific town, make sure the people know it. I enjoy the idea of helping small businesses stand on their own, and I know other people are the same. If you can prove to people that you and your business are one of them, they’ll appreciate your struggle to get your business going and help you through it.
