The Navajo Nation Presents A New Video Series

Navajo Nation presents their first series of videos for Navajo Tourism. The series is created to bring a closer experience and sense of enrichment to the viewer. In order to bridge the gap, dismiss the stereotypes, and to shed some of the mystery, the Navajo Office of Tourism has brought the Navajo people to you. There are six videos in the series:

Navajo Nation Welcomes You
This video is the first video in the series. It encourages people to come to the Navajo Nation explaining what visitors can expect when they visit, they will get to see firsthand the Dine (Navajo) life style, experience some of the most spectacular scenery including Canyon de Chelly & Monument Valley, listen to the stories of the Navajo people and try Navajo food.

Voice of the Navajo
The Voice of the Navajo people explains what it means to Navajo. The importance of religion, culture, and language of the Navajo people is discussed. The video interviews a number of Navajo who explain what is important to them as being a Navajo and what it means to them.

Navajo Facts & Fiction
Navajo Facts & Fiction debunks the myths that many people still have about the Navajo people. Some of these myths that are put to rest are that the Navajo people have never participated in the practice of scalping and they were never a nation that lived in Teepees, instead they lived in Hogans- a 6 or 8 sided wooden structure.

Navajo Woman
Navajo Woman features Jocelyn Billy, Miss Navajo as she discusses what it means to be a Navajo woman. Navajo woman are caretakers, providers, and teachers. She describes how the Navajo woman came to be. The Navajo woman was t their savior, she gave birth to twins who have saved the world.

Navajo Jewelry
Navajo jewelry is a very significant part of the Navajo way of life; jewelry has always been a part of their tradition dress. In order to obtain the Turquoise they needed to make their jewelry it was mined or traded with other native peoples. Navajo jewelry became very popular to the outside world in the 1940s, they are known for their crescent designed jewelry style.

Navajo Etiquette
This video explains how visitors should act when they come to the Navajo Nation. It provides guidelines of what to expect and how to act in certain situations.
