The New Nationalized Healthcare Plan - Good Or Bad?

The long debated nationalized healthcare plan had finally been passed by the government. However, the passing of the plan has not stopped the ongoing debates of the plan that are still going on. To some this plan is a godsend that will allow them to now have healthcare. To others it means they will be paying more for what they believe will be a lower quality of healthcare than they are presently accustomed.

Healthcare providers presently operate with a risk pool. This means that there are enough healthy people in the group to cover those who will require major medical care. The new program will change this by allowing those with previous medical conditions to be covered. Most employers provide healthcare insurance to their employees, however do to the rising costs, many have transferred a portion of the cost to the employees who now are paying more for sometimes fewer healthcare benefits.

Unfortunately, for these individuals, the new proposed insurance plan will not benefit them. They will be paying for a government run health care plan that mostly will benefit those who cannot afford payments or are ineligible to receive health insurance from the usual sources.

Of course for those who are living life without health insurance either because they are unable to pay for it or because they are too ill will receive benefits from this program that they in turn won't be paying for. As a result, it is those who already have health insurance and who are taking care of themselves who will be paying for the benefits of those who are unable to pay their own way.

Today's healthcare premiums are expensive and many are concerned that these will skyrocket even more with the burden of now covering all those individuals who where not previously covered. Other concerns are that the quality of care will diminish as more people are put into the system and the number of doctors cannot properly care for everyone. Long waits for doctors and specialists can be seen in those countries that already have a nationalized program. Only time will tell whether passing the nationalized healthcare bill was good for the American people or not.
