The Planet Is Warming Up. Just What Can We Do?

Global warming is something that is being hotly discussed all throughout the world. There is an apparent surge in the average temperature of the globe, and the results of this are starting to be experienced in several amazing ways.

The modifications in the environment are unforeseen and astonishing. A number of areas of the earth are going through dry spells at levels never seen before. But stories of intense storms and flooding are seemingly much more prevalent. And despite the fact that these problems appear to be brought on by global warming, certain areas are suffering from far lower temperature.

It is considered that the increase in the average temperature of the planet is mostly caused by man's activity, and particularly the release of carbon, or more specifically CO2, into the atmosphere by way of the use of gas, oil and coal.

Coal, oil and gas are the consequence of millions of years of biological and geological processes. Virtually all life on the planet is carbon based, meaning that carbon makes up a major part of the cellular composition of all living things.

Over millions of years, dead animals and plants have been absorbed into the planet earth itself, and altered into a number of compounds. In particular solids like coal, liquids such as crude oil, and also natural gases. And in more modern times the human race has worked out how to readily extract these substances, and control the energy kept within.

And now all of the carbon that has for millions of years been trapped a long way underneath our planet's surface is being discharged back into the atmosphere, forming carbon dioxide and producing what is termed global warming.

There's two main main reasons this dependence on non-renewable fuels cannot continue on. First of all, there is only a finite supply. Only a certain number of animals and plants have perished, and even fewer have been through the process that forms gas, coal or oil stores. The world is running out of fossil fuels. It's been fact as long as we've been employing them.

The second reason is the effect it has on our world - the changeable weather, melting glaciers causing increasing ocean levels, exceedingly dry periods and floods.

So what are we able to do about this? Obviously, there is not much a single person can achieve on a global scale. However if a huge number of folks start minimizing their use of coal, oil and gas, the consolidated effect of so many people making change will add up.

Probably the major area which we could make modifications is in our use of electrical energy. A large proportion of our electric power comes from the burning of coal. If we could minimize our electric power usage we will be making a direct influence on the amount of co2 being released into the environment. So pull the plug on some lighting or invest in power efficient appliances.

Maybe seek alternative energy, like that produced through solar panels or windmills. It's even possible these days to make your own electricity.

It is important to remember is that every tiny bit helps!
