Reproduction can be literally known as duplication of an original picture or reproducing the original content into several portions. Printing can be regarded as one of the most important inventions of the modern world because it is due to printing that we are still able to get access to knowledge of ancient times which otherwise would have being eroded by the passing of time. So, lithography can be regarded as a boon for the history world. It is believed that the history of printing goes back to 3000 B.C.

Printing is not limited to paper, but it can also be done on cloth and even silk. Cylinder seals are considered to be the first method of reproduction as well as woodblock printing. There are different types of reproduction, for example using a movable type printing, a rotary letterpress, an offset press, etc.

Woodblock reproduction is a method of printing in which wood blocks are used for printing, though it is a very strenuous process and requires lots of hard work and is also time consuming. It was developed in China. Movable printing is such in which characters and letters that are already prepared are arranged to make a particular content. The simple form of printing was done by carving out the scriptures in stone so that it does not get lost as time goes by and can be passed on from generation to generation. It is also believed that printing is the invention of Buddhists. In olden days as there were very limited means to get dye necessary for silk-screening, people used fruits like olives and grapes for printing.

Nowadays all of the above-mentioned printing methods have almost become lost and have been replaced by modern reproduction methods. Nowadays, it is the era of laser printing, which has proved to be fast, less time consuming, and also very cost efficient. In today’s world, reproduction has become an inevitable part of life may be in business and day-to-day life. Printing is important to a businessman as much it is for a school-going child who has to submit his project in time. Both of them require a mode of printing to accomplish their respective tasks.
