The Worst Performers and Performance Awards The awards presented in good humor are given for recognition in the worst of the film in a film year. It was first presented in 198. Constituted by one of the country’s most popular publicists and copywriters, John J.B. Wilson, these awards are something that the internet generation is particularly fond of. Agreed that the Academy Awards are the most sought after awards in the film fraternity throughout the world, but The Razzies are something that no one in the film fraternity would like to get (for obvious reasons)! Also, these awards perhaps are the cheapest awards in the history of film appreciation! Each trophy costs just around $4! Though there cannot be a comparison between the Oscars and The Razzies, a comparison is made just for fun! The internet woke up to these awards and since then, it has a fan base which covers almost the whole nation. The best and the worst critics are the audience and there cannot be a better jury to nominate and frame the ‘award winners’. The Award The construction of the award is very simple. The unique part being the golf-ball sized raspberry that sits on the folded 8mm Super film reel and is gold painted (to make the winners feel that its really special)! John Wilson, who held potluck parties suddenly came up with this idea to constitute such awards while at a dinner party and (un)fortunately, the first of these awards went to the film – Can’t Stop the Music. He then created a foundation for the awards, whose members are paid to pick the worst films of the year and award them. The categories are not hard to guess, with the following making up the list: • Worst Actor (male and female) • Worst Supporting Actor (male and female) • Worst Screen Couple • Worst Screenplay • Worst Director • Worst Picture (Film) • Worst Remake/Prequel/Sequel Some categories have been striked off the list such as worst original song, new star, musical score and visual effects. There are other special categories as well like, Worst Screenplay Grossing Over $100 Million, Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property, Most Flatulent Teen-Targeted Movie, Worst Excuse for an Actual Movie (All Concept/No Content!), Most Tiresome Tabloid Targets, Worst Excuse For Family Entertainment, Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie, and Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D. Of recent, after the internet revolution many enthusiastic users also voted on the site’s official website and wrote blog on the event. The event which got internet exposure has captured every wild imagination of the public and since then, it has become an award ceremony which is eagerly looked forward to each year.
