The system is able to associate multiple info and data with domain names to every user. Most users are transmitted data which can be used to locate these devices that are available all over the world. It can also be referred to as a 'phone book' that carries a list of IP addresses and hostnames. The whole point of a DNS server is to make it possible to give domain names to Internet users that will be independent from others. This will allow other web browsers to visit this location. This information can be obtained by using hyperlinks which connect to domain names. Most people are able to remember a domain name rather than an IP address, which is why they are so effective. Most of the time, website owners will associated the name of their website along with the domain name to make it easier for people to remember it.

Other information is also stored in a domain name system. Some of this data include mail servers. These mail servers will more than likely accept emails from different users for each domain. Other identifiers that are often used include UPC codes and RFID tags. There are two principles that are associated with the system including the Internet Protocal (also known as the IP) and the address system.

The actual name servers are managed by a distributed database system. This system uses the client-server model. In this case, the name servers would be considered the same as the nodes of the database. Every domain contains at least one DNS server that is authoritative. This server will publish information about that particular domain. The most essential part of the server is the root name servers. Most of the servers look up this particular server while retrieving a domain name.

The authoritative name server can be named either a slave or master server. The master server is responsible for storing original copies of all records. A slave DNS server will utilize an automated updated mechanism. This is used to communicate with the master server in order to make copies of the records. All of the DNS zones must have an authoritative name server installed in order for it to function correctly. Most of the time, a domain name must be registered with a domain name registrar.
