The Safe 'n Sound Solution

When I addressed the task of converting my study into a home music studio, I was able to determine all the equipment I needed but I ultimately overlooked a way to contain all the noise. Noise, as one could imagine, is what I was working towards, but not the kind of noise that bled out from the studio and infiltrated the rest of my house.

By the request, no, demand of my wife and two children, I knew what had to be done. I would need to restrain the sound within the studio, and maybe turn the volume knob on my amp down a little.

To knock down some of the stray noise, I wallpapered in a layer of plywood to deaden the vibrations in the walls and, over that, a layer of foam to further absorb the sound. There was one last element to sound-proofing the new studio though; what to do about the door. Every measure I had taken would be in vain if I overlooked the room's most obvious leak. I considered applying the same tactic I had used for the walls but this solution would have probably resulted in something of a fire-hazard, and getting in and out would have been a challenge.

Enter Masonite's Safe 'N Sound door; a light-weight, solid core, sound-muffling solution that, unlike the other option, met safety regulations and would prove to be much more functional.

The door incorporated several "green" elements and is constructed with wheat straw-based DorCor, a renewable resource. It proved to be the ideal choice for my sound transmission issues.

Now that the Safe ‘N Sound door has been installed on my music studio peace and I dare say quiet has been restored in our happy home. My taste in music however remains a great debate.
