See, I think that everybody searching for "the secret of success" are actually looking for something else entirely. I think that because they seem to be looking, but not seeing.
There are a lot of searches done every day on the phrase "the secret of success". I've just googled the exact phrase and there are more than 2 million sites. If you google just the words that number shoots up to 106 million!
So, finding out what the secret of success is should actually be pretty easy. And it is! And it turns out that they aren't secrets at all. In fact they are common sense that anyone could come up with all by himself or herself.
So, I think that what they are actually looking for is a magical ingredient that they haven't seen before that will instantly make all the pieces click into place. They are looking for a "missing link". That one great secret that, once found, would catapult them towards success.
Trouble is, there isn't one.
The secret to success turns out to be rather mundane. So I think that most people just overlook it and keep searching for something more exciting.
I have written about it extensively myself. The main components of success are easy to find. They are:
All pretty boring really. But they work! Alas, this isn't what many people want to hear. They would rather find something like "mix up eye of newt, wing of bat, tears of a Nile crocodile and the bile of a green snake, boil for 10 minutes and then drink under a full moon whilst naked." But it just isn't like that.
This is why the movie "The Secret" did so well, in my opinion. I don't think that the makers and contributors meant it this way (and in fact some of them have subsequently said so), but what has entered the public mind is that all you have to do is visualise something and the universe will deliver it to you on a plate. And if whatever you want doesn't show up, then clearly you haven't been visualising properly, and should try again, harder this time. Just have a look on the forums if you don't believe me. It's a kind of mass hallucination.
I must say straight away that visualisation is a key component (see point 2 above). But it is only one of the things that you have to do. You have to get your hands dirty and go out there and start DOING something.
But then, doesn't it give you a much better feeling if you imagine that the Universe/God/Great Spirit (whatever your specific belief is) is just standing there with a towel over his/her arm with a notepad waiting to take your order. That's far more interesting, romantic even. Unfortunately, whereas it might make you feel better, it probably will not bring any of your goals/desires any closer.
And I'd just like to say that I'm not a non-believer. I think that there is a "force" of some kind at work, whatever name you give it. But there is an old, old saying that is particularly pertinent here:
"God helps those who help themselves."
The fact is that, for many people, the secret of success is not the earth shattering climax that they were hoping for. It just the same boring old rules. The best that you can do is look for ways to make these boring rules easier to follow.
This isn't to say that the process of achieving success is boring. Far from it! You can really enjoy yourself making a cake, but reading the recipe is probably not going to fire you up much.
So, my point is exactly what I say in the title. The secret of success is no secret. You probably already know enough to get started. If you have been searching and searching, may I respectfully suggest that you stop, and start applying what you already know, and work from there.
