The Serpentine Belt – Keeping It Moving

A serpentine belt, is an accessory which can be found in the engine of a car or a vehicle and is used to turn on a lot of accessories on the front of an engine, the belt powers a lot of equipment in the vehicle, it looks like a serpent or a snake and moves like one around the various pulleys that is why its name is derived from the said animal. The snake crawls to the ground in an unusual speeding fashion while the belt also crawls in a fast motion along the pulleys. It is also called as poly-v or multi-vee and is used to drive multiple devices like an alternator, water pump, air pump, A/C compressor and power steering pump.

A serpentine belt could be used in around 4 to 5years in order for it functions smoothly and correctly again; replacing it would give it a more appropriate condition. The part for replacement is usually cheap but it is hard to transfer and its replacement requires a lengthy and hard labor which increases the price of its replacement, the process in which it is replaced may take time.The belt enables the different components of the car to work properly like its power steering, water pump and alternator. It should be normally checked by a mechanic in order for it to be always in good condition to function well within your own vehicle. Breaking it would mean trouble as the normal functions of the vehicle would no longer work; you lose everything at once if it splits and gets cut.

The serpentine belt indeed is the heart of all the accessories of the car, with its main function just like of the human’s heart to keep blood flow going as it pumps blood while the belt functions to keep everything going on your vehicle as it is attached with the vehicle’s different functioning systems. It is indeed the lifeline that keeps the vehicle alive for proper usage, its system indeed would be paralyzed without this belt and other systems would also be affected that means bigger problems for the vehicle.

The serpentine belt is normally manufactured by Hutchinson and is primarily more efficient from previous older multiple belt systems. A wider belt would be more efficient than those of composed by a system of long belts and it could withstand higher tensions that mean it is stronger than older belts and is the ideal for the modern cars of today to allow it to function properly.
