The Skills Of A Career Coach: New York And Beyond

Of the main goals of personal coaches is to help people learn more about themselves so that they can know more clearly what they want in life and have the tools to be able to achieve their goals. For many people, this is something that's easier said that done, at least before they spend some time with a life coach. New York City, like all big cities, can seem like a dog-eat-dog world, especially for people who are still trying to work their way up in the world. One of the benefits of starting early on with a career coach, New York city resident or not, is that you'll have the advantage of knowing where you're going from the get-go, rather than trying to figure it out on your way up the ladder.

Taking advantage of the resources around you is a really amazing thing to do for yourself, and it is something that many people don't really think about. Now, just because you have an executive coach (New York has plenty to choose from) doesn't mean that you'll have all the answers, but it does mean that there will be someone who can help you discover those answers for yourself. In fact, being coached is pretty much all like that- much like the rest of the world, you still have to put in the work. It's simply a form of learning- a teacher can teach you, but they cannot make you learn.

The first step in all of this is to be able to sit down and look at what it is that you want to change in your life, starting with the things that make you unhappy. Upgrades to things that make you happy are good, of course, but to get to an even starting ground you must first eliminate sources of unhappiness. You might have a long laundry list of little issues with work- you don't have access to a printer on your floor, the delivery service always runs out of vegetarian meals, your office is too dull and makes you depressed, etc. Or you might only have a few big issues- you're better at your bosses' job than they are or you keep getting the accounts that are about to expire and so you never get a chance to make good commissions. Once you know what needs to be fixed, you know where to start!

Another very important trick, especially for women, is to stand proud behind your work. Don't be afraid to let people know about your success; as long as you do it in a way that doesn't seem like you're tooting your own horn, it can only service your will. Likewise, look for more ways that you can help your company out- if you see a chance to improve something, take it. The more your motivation shines through and gets noticed, the more likely the bosses are going to think of you when it comes time for promotions and the like. The ultimate goal in all of this is to be able to clearly visualize what it is that you need to do to achieve your goals, and then follow through on that. Professional guidance in the form of career coaching is an excellent way to have success in doing so.
