The Time To Switch To Wireless Internet Has Arrived

The age of wireless internet is here and it is here to stay. Thanks to the hard work of development teams across the world, the fourth generation of wireless standards has arrived on the scene—and what a difference they make when it comes time to connect and share data! The systems that are currently being implemented and deployed across the country are so incredibly superior to previous wireless initiatives that you won’t even think you’re using a wireless connection to the web: you will think you’re plugged in with a fiber optics cable just down the street from the telecom’s offices! What a blessing it really is, for all of us, that finally mobility and high-performance connections have been fused into one.

A major component of the astronomical advance at hand has been furnished thanks to the intelligent decision on behalf of several IPs and communications companies to deploy WiMax systems. With this type of system, wireless connections are finally possible without a single cable needing to be tended to a customer’s home—everything is transmitted wirelessly this side of the communication’s companies fixed backhaul to the internet (their dedicated cable connection to the web). This is how it works: they relay a cable connection from their facilities to a nearby tower, and from there the wireless path commences. That tower will beam the signal on over to the next tower, a chain which can continue as long as the distance between towers doesn’t exceed a certain limit (several miles). At one point, one of these towers will be providing coverage for the area where you find yourself, and hence the completely wireless system. Whether using your home connection from your desktop PC or using your mobile phone, you will simply need the proper wireless modem or data access card and you are in.

Of course, this sort of mobile broadband system only works if the transmission power is quite significant, which is precisely the case with WiMax communications technologies. For example, compared to WiFi technology the transmissions distances for signals in this particular system are many, many miles superior. And thanks to the investment of several major companies in the industry the necessary signal relay towers are being put up in many areas throughout the nation, meaning this technology will be within the reach of an ever larger segment of the population.

Further testament to the value of these new technologies can be had by simply looking at communications investments in the developing world. In parts of the planet where the population lacks the sort of communications infrastructure we happen to enjoy here in the US, WiMax deployments are being considered as the principal form of communications nationally—replacing traditional cellular tower deployments entirely in many cases. This is really a revolutionary technology that brings access to the web to everybody, and in that sense it won’t be much of a surprise to see its popularity soar over the next few years.
