This question has been on the back of the minds of wrinkle cream marketers over the past few years, why wrinkle cream? What causes this interest with the aging process? Many experts feel that it is the advancements of science in this industry or the increased knowledge of consumers regarding the potential damages that day to day life can cause. The truth; however, is that it all comes down to numbers, that large segment of our society born between 1946 and 1964, the baby boomers.
With such a large portion of our population showing the signs of aging collectively, such an interest was inevitable. Skin is one of the body’s elements that tends to reflect aging and the damages that one does to their skin unknowingly. Many belonging to this demographic were heavy smokers during their youth, a time when the dangers of smoking were not known. And the same with sunburn, sure, sunscreen has been around for a while, but only utilized by the masses in the last 10-15 years. The potential dangers of our behavior become more aware to us everyday.
Society, as a whole, has grown much more educated and involved over the past 40 years. Remember the growth. The advancements of electronics, computers, and automobiles will amaze you. The same is true for doctors. The surgeries that are now common place, were once unfathomable. All of this is a result of the education our society is getting. I am not trying to say that our education system is perfect, or even up to par. The point here is that many more people have opportunity for a higher education that did in the past. More teenagers are heading off to college, not just starting a family. When you combine an atmosphere for learning with the advancement of information, the result is almost always increased awareness.
It is this increased awareness, along with the amount of people showing the signs of aging that causes this frenzy for anti aging products. There is no magic formula to stop the aging process or the push “reset” and begin again. The best that any of us can do is to start taking care of ourselves today, and hope that the best wrinkle cream out there is effective. So we drink our daily water to hydrate ourselves and we do our best to exercise and eat right, hoping to retain our youthful figure. We lean towards sugeries and wrinkle creams (advancements of society) to finish the rest. It actually makes quite a bit of sense when you think about it. This generation has already caused and witnessed many changes over the past forty years, it certainly makes sense that they would continue to enlighten society as they enter their retirement.
Hopefully this “buzz” about anti aging skin care, will continue to spread amongst younger individuals who still have some time to prevent some of the damages their elder predecessors were unaware of. Proof of this is already clear in the online forums and consumer review sites discussing skin care and the proper methods of being proactive. These sites are instrumental in the process of educating people and consumers. In the past women and men were left to their own means to discover the best products to help reduce or prevent the signs of aging. Often receiving advice such as, trial and error is the best approach. While it may eventually be effective, your skin would benefit greatly from effective skin care today, not years from now. These sites, visited by people of all ages, have become a place to discuss and exchange information about the prevention of wrinkles. Amazing tools, they even review brands, making recommendations and offering insight. Even as a skin care professional, I learn something new there all the time.
So when one wonders about the popularity of wrinkle creams, they need only to remove themselves and think about the ages of our generations to start to understand. A very large portion of our population is the root of this popularity. A lot of people are currently looking for anti aging solutions, and many manufacturers are scrambling around trying to provide effective ones. This is turn, causes many skin care forums and review sites to pop up, further educating the public and quite frankly spurring on the “buzz.” The next thing you know you find yourself reading an article online about why people are using wrinkle cream.
