The Ultimate Bedroom Storage Solution, Why You Should Buy The Best Wardrobe You Can

If you are short on space you may think you haven’t got enough room for a decent wardrobe, but think again. Forgoing a good wardrobe can be a false economy in space terms, as wardrobes are incredibly efficient storage spaces, not just for clothing but for built in home offices or sewing areas etc. As you can close the doors on all of the clutter wardrobes are a great choice if you prefer a clean, modern space, but you don’t need a modern home to justify a good wardrobe, clutter looks just as bad in a traditional home as it does a contemporary one.

Wardrobes usually stretch all the way from the floor to very near the top of the ceiling. That is a lot of storage on what could potentially be a small footprint, & you could easily get rid of other storage furniture in the room with a good wardrobe. Many modern houses or flat conversions are badly designed, & simply haven’t allowed room to store clothing & essential items. If you have a wardrobe then you will get clothes rails to hang your clothing, & shelves & drawers to store not just clothing but hair styling accessories & cosmetics, magazines, jewellery, & other bits, or even have a computer set up.

If you are starting from scratch make sure your new wardrobe is going t give you the storage space that you need. If two of you are using the wardrobe it is best to divide it into two separate areas using vertical dividers if there isn’t a natural division in the number of cabinets you each have. Make the most of the height of your wardrobe by putting a shelf near the very top to use for non everyday storage, & think about having a hanging rail at the top (under the top shelf) & another one half way up. Add a set of drawers at the bottom & you will have fantastic storage in a small space, & if you have the luxury of a decent sized space to have two cabinets (each cabinet is about 90cm to 1 metre) then you will be able to store almost anything! Sliding doors or curtains on the front will take up less space as they don’t need space to open out into.

Walk in wardrobe systems can be great if you have an open space or dressing room. Installed against a wall, these are completely custom made, including drawers, shelves and hanging space. The advantage of these is that everything is open, & easy to see, & they often have options for built in desks, dressing tables & even bookcases.

Depending on your budget there are different ways to get a well organised wardrobe. It is possible to buy fairly inexpensive modular wardrobes with different options for internal storage. They won’t last too long, but can be a good stop-gap. Many of the brands now available have a good choice of storage options & can be customised by you to some extent (you can choose where to put the shelves, for example). These are usually self assembly so if you are a DIY dunce get someone in to assemble it, otherwise you could end up ruining it completely! You will always need two people top assemble a wardrobe as they are very heavy.

If you want plenty of flexibility & something that will last (not forgetting wardrobe doors are opened daily which is why cheap ones don’t last) it might pay to look at the ‘luxury’ end of the market, Italian and German wardrobes will offer longevity as well as much more flexibility with options like pull out shoe racks & pull out handbag storage that simply doesn’t exist at the budget end of the market. These can be a more expensive choice, but they are well finished, with a fantastic selection of colours & designs for the doors. Doors can be bought in lovely wood veneers, glossy or matt lacquer, or beautiful plain, frosted or mirrored glass, & some models have stunning handles available.

Splashing out on a great wardrobe can be a wise decision, however, you can still get good storage at a bargain price if you take the time to choose carefully.
