The View From The Top

I once took a trip to the very top of the world. The highest point on the earth that any man or woman has ever been to. From there you can see hundreds of other mountain peaks because you are at the same elevation that commercial jet airplanes fly. The trip was easy and actually didn't take me long at long. I didn't really feel too much of the cold or oxygen deprivation that you would think you would at that altitude. Fortunately, I didn't suffer any injuries or threats to my health and since I was alone, there was no one else to worry about. And most exciting was the fact it didn't cost me the normal charge of approximately forty-thousand dollars. I was able to keep a clear head and take in the sight from the very top of the world. Something that you don't forget.

Now before you get too carried away with my accomplishment. Let me let you in on a secret. You to can enjoy that site just as I did, too. Want to know how? Well, thanks to the magic of the Internet, you can find an amazing panoramic view from the top of Mt. Everest simply by using the Internet. It truly is unbelievable.

But what is the one key thing that you and I will miss from taking this approach instead of joining a climbing team, getting ourselves in shape, spending several months acclimating ourselves to the altitude, putting our lives at risk almost daily and waiting for that weather window to give us that chance to finish the climb and make it to the top? That's it! It's all of that. The Journey!

We can sometimes be so busy trying to make it to the top, to find satisfaction and fulfillment, that we miss the beauty of the trip itself. You've heard it said, to stop and smell the roses. I find sometimes in my own personal faith with my God, that it can all take on a whole new light if my personal prayers focus on what I am grateful for and not on what I want or need. Try it sometime. No matter who your pray to or what your faith is. Try to spend your time focusing on what is good around you, what it is that brings beauty and wonderful smells and sites into your life.

You'll find that the journey can be much more fulfilling even in light of the surprises that come our way. No matter if the trials and problems seem to be overwhelming, take a moment and smell the roses and enjoy the journey.
